Tonight was one of those games when a single player can just not be stopped. Suns PF Amare Stoudemire went 17-for-21 from the field, made 15 free throws without a miss and had 11 rebounds, six assists and five steals.
He was simply unstoppable inside and wasn’t missing from outside either. Would a healthy Rasho have helped? Maybe some but Amare’s speed would have given Rasho the same fits that Roy Hibbert had trying to slow him down. The Pacers just don’t have anyone that matches up well with a dominant athletic power forward like that and tonight he was on fire.
Otherwise the Pacers played a decent game but Phoenix is not a team you can let go on a 14-0 run and expect ot get back the lead easily.
The referees made some really curious calls - especially the technical on Travis when Amare did some bad acting, bailing out Raja Bell with a call when he tripped over his own foot, and choosing to call a shot clock violation on Daniels instead of the shooting foul, there were also some missed possessions on some questionable out-of-bounds calls too. Those were momentum killers for sure.
One highlight was the return of Travis Diener - he really pushes the ball up court harder than our other players. I hope his aggressive tempo rubs off on Ford and Jack who can still crank it up a notch or two.
